HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The recent school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, highlights the need to improve security at our nation's public schools; and

WHEREAS, Security at our State's public schools could be vastly increased if State and local law enforcement agencies and public school districts cooperated with one another to increase the presence of law enforcement officials in and around public schools; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage State and local law enforcement agencies and public school districts in the State to cooperate with one another to establish school walk-through programs that would permit State and local law enforcement officials to more frequently stop and walk through public school properties during their patrols and thereby increase the security of those properties; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to each regional superintendent of schools, the President of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association, the President of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Director of State Police.
