HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Alcohol use by persons under the age of 21 is a major public health problem; and

WHEREAS, Underage alcohol abuse is associated with school problems, such as higher absence and poor or failing grades; and

WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that reducing underage drinking will require community-based efforts to monitor the activities of youth and decrease youth access to alcohol; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representative is committed to the education and protection of the children of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage all school districts in this State to establish educational programs to inform parents about the dangers of serving alcohol to minors and the prohibition on serving alcohol to minors and the punishment for a violation of the prohibition; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage all parents and minor children in this State to participate in the educational programs established by school districts concerning the dangers of serving alcohol to minors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Chairperson of the State Board of Education.
