HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council
3of Area Projects are organizing a "Youth Democracy Day" to be
4held on May 14, 2013, in Springfield; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2013 will bring together over
6250 youths, and their supporters, from across the State to
7engage in a large-scale youth forum with legislators and senior
8administration figures; and
 
9    WHEREAS, At the Youth Democracy Day 2013, the objectives
10hoped to be achieved are an increased sense of purpose and
11power for young people to articulate their concerns, increased
12knowledge of State government procedures, people, and
13processes, the creation of a dialogue between local governments
14and young people representing community services, improved
15people skills in civic engagement and the democratic process
16amongst young people, and the creation of community/school
17youth-driven violence-prevention projects to possibly obtain
18service learning and/or community service credits; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2013 will kick-off with Civic
20Educational and Engagement Training at the State House Inn in
21Springfield and will include presentations by youths and by
22officials at the State Capitol; there will be tours and

1pre-arranged group meetings and photo opportunities with
2individual legislators, administrators, and other officials;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, All participating youths will receive
5Certificates of Attendance at Youth Democracy Day 2013;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we enthusiastically recognize the Youth Democracy Day to be
10held in Springfield on May 14, 2013, and thank The Chicago Area
11Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects for all they
12do to encourage the youth of the State to become more involved
13in their community and government; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council
16of Area Projects as an expression of our esteem and respect.
