HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House wish to
3recognize the 2013 Dream Machine Recycle Rally; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Since its launch in 2010, the Dream Machine
5Recycle Rally has galvanized K-12 schools across the country,
6their faculty, and surrounding communities to help make the
7planet cleaner and greener through recycling; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Nearly 1,000 schools in 34 states have
9participated in the program since its launch, and nearly 40
10million beverage containers - almost 2 million pounds - have
11been captured and kept out of landfills; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In its 3rd-year (2012), the program awarded nearly
13$200,000 in prizes to participating schools across the country;
14one of the programs's sponsors, PepsiCo, has contributed over
15$500,000 in prizes over the 3 years of the program; 3 schools
16will be awarded the Dream Green Makeover Grand Prize this May
17and June, $25,000 to be used for green improvements at the
18schools, such as solar panels, energy-efficient printers,
19outdoor classrooms, and much more; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Since the program's launch, it has had a great
21charitable partner in the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for

1Veterans with Disabilities (EBV); the more plastic bottles and
2aluminum cans recycled through the program the more support
3PepsiCo provides to EBV, which provides training in
4entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11
5veterans with disabilities; PepsiCo has given $1.5 million to
6EBV over the 3 years since the program's beginning; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The first grand-prize celebration of this year's
8Dream Machine Recycle and Rally program will take place on May
922, 2013, at St. Bede Catholic School in Ingleside; the school
10showed a huge dedication to recycling this past year with more
11than 550,000 plastic bottles and aluminum cans collected;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we recognize the Dream Machine Recycle and Rally program and
16St. Bede's commitment to recycling; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the Dream Machine Recycle Rally organizers and to
19St. Bede's Catholic School.
