HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity on the 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball; and

WHEREAS, The 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Chicago-Matteson; and

WHEREAS, The yearly celebration is held in order to continue to provide educational resources and raise scholarship funds for young African American males to expand their scholastic opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha has provided educational services to the community, such as formerly administering legislative scholarships for State Representatives George Scully, Albert Riley, Jr., and Anthony DeLuca, funding scholarship awards from the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation in excess of $250,000 to date, and running the Leaders of Tomorrow mentorship program and the Project Alpha leadership training; and

WHEREAS, This year's program will salute the Theta Mu Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for 50 years of service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and congratulate the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity on its 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
