HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kim Angela
4Murph-Sims on the occasion of her retirement as principal of
5Bouchet International School and recognize her nearly 34 years
6of being dedicated to education within the Chicago Public
7Schools; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims has served as a teacher, reading
9specialist, curriculum coordinator, TESL teacher, and
10assistant principal and is currently the principal at Bouchet
11International School (formerly Bouchet Math and Science
12Academy, formerly Bryn Mawr Elementary); she has been the
13instructional leader at Bouchet International School for the
14past 7 years and her educational experience has enabled her to
15craft a curriculum that strategically drives instruction; her
16commitment to help all students reach their best potential has
17been the cornerstone of her ongoing success; as an
18administrator, she has mentored countless numbers of teachers,
19overseen a diverse staff, and facilitated professional
20development specifically designed to close the achievement
21gap; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims always has a visible presence in
23her school as principal, but she is, at her core, a teacher; it

1is not unusual to see her taking part in classroom discussions
2and challenging students to continue their learning outside of
3the school; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims has crafted and sustained numerous
5programs at Boucher International School such the Academic
6Olympics, the Young Authors Competition, the annual Spelling
7Bee, Singapore Math, lesson studies, horizontal and vertical
8articulation of curriculum using a transdisciplinary approach,
9Parent University workshops, Creative Curriculum for
10Preschool, Fuel Up to Play 60 (Healthy Choices Program), a
11Garden Room that bridges science and agricultural awareness, a
12Chicago Bulls grant-Energiza Bulls Fitness Center, Youth
13Guidance, Check and Connect (Attendance Incentives Program), a
14Gospel Choir, Chinese Kite Making, world language studies in
15Spanish, an Art Link Program that includes video conferencing
16with students in other countries, and the Children's Literacy
17Initiative; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims believes that the connection
19between school and community is essential for educational
20development and success; she has worked closely with the Black
21United Fund of Illinois, Fulfilling Our Responsibility Unto
22Mankind, the RALD Institute, the Allstate Insurance Company,
23the Chicago Police Department-District 3, 5th Ward Alderwoman
24Leslie Hariston, and many education advocacy groups to achieve

1this goal; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Kim Murph-Sims time at Bouchet International
3School has seen tremendous advancement; student growth has
4increased by double digits on standardized tests and the school
5has been transformed from a math and science academy to an
6institution with a more global perspective towards education;
7the school is in its candidacy phase to become an authorized
8International Baccalaureate World School that provides a
9Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme, with a
10continuum of the MYP and Diploma Program; and
 
11    WHEREAS, A reception honoring Kim Murph-Sims's retirement
12will be held on October 25, 2013 at The Beverly Country Club in
13Chicago; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we congratulate Kim Angela Murph-Sims as she retires from her
17position of principal at Bouchet International School after 33
18years in education; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Kim Murph-Sims as an expression of our esteem and
21respect.
