| 2 | | WHEREAS, November 22, 2013 will mark the 50th anniversary | 3 | | of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of | 4 | | the United States of America; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot by a | 6 | | sniper at 12:30pm standard time on November 22, 1963 while | 7 | | traveling in a presidential limousine through Dealey Plaza in | 8 | | Dallas, Texas; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy was accompanied in the | 10 | | motorcade by his wife, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, along | 11 | | with Texas Governor John Connally, who was wounded by gunfire; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in connection with | 14 | | the assassination and was killed 2 days later by Jack Ruby; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Elected on January 20, 1961, John F. Kennedy was | 16 | | the only Catholic and the 2nd-youngest President to serve in | 17 | | the White House; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Despite his short-lived presidency, John F. | 19 | | Kennedy left behind a remarkable legacy of leadership; and |

Kennedy will be remembered for | 2 | | many accomplishments, including steering our nation away from | 3 | | the brink of war during the Cuban Missile Crisis, propelling | 4 | | America into the space race, founding the Peace Corps, and | 5 | | championing civil rights for all Americans; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we urge all churches to toll bells and all schools to designate | 9 | | a moment of silence at the exact hour and minute of November | 10 | | 22, 2013 to mark the occasion of this solemn anniversary; and | 11 | | be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be made | 13 | | available to those who request it.
