HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former State Representative Daniel L. Houlihan of Wilmette, who passed away on November 13, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was born in Chicago on July 29, 1936; he earned his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor degrees at Loyola University Chicago; he served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan began his career as an Assistant State's Attorney for Cook County from 1962 to 1966 and as Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois from 1966 to 1967; he rose to prominence as a zoning attorney; he was elected State Representative for the 28th District in November 1972 and served 3 terms; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was the longtime Legislative Counsel for the Illinois State Bar Association and long-standing Board of Directors Member for Misericordia Heart of Mercy, and a member of Catholic Charities Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was the beloved husband for 50 years of Mary Alice (nee Loftus) Houlihan; the adored father of Margaret (Jim) Smith, Kathleen (David) Motzenbecker, Marty (JoAnn) Houlihan, Bridget (Mike) Kennedy, Molly (Peter) McDermott, and Nora Houlihan; the proud grandfather of Jack and Maeve Smith, Fiona Motzenbecker, Grace, Claire, and Danny Houlihan, Donny, Tommy, and Joe Kennedy, and Patrick and William McDermott; the caring brother of Paul (Kay) Houlihan, Tom "Brian" Houlihan, Mary (John) McCloskey, Mike (Mary) Houlihan, and the late Bill Houlihan and John (Vicky) Houlihan; the fond brother-in-law of Jim (Jean) Loftus, Cathy (the late Donald) Fennell, Chuck (Susan) Loftus, Joe (Kathy) Loftus, and Peg Klug; uncle to many nieces and nephews; and friend to many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former State Representative Daniel L. Houlihan, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Daniel Houlihan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
