HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former State Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman, who passed away on November 29, 2013 at the age of 65; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was born on November 10, 1948 in Elgin to Vernon and Marion Bergman; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman's interest in politics was evident in his childhood, when he memorized the words to "Making of the President" and wrote many letters to White House officials; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was raised in the Village of Palatine and lived there for his entire adult life; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman graduated from Palatine High School before joining his father in the family's trucking business, Bergman Trucking; and

WHEREAS, In 1973, at the age of 24, Representative Bergman followed in his father's footsteps and was elected as the Palatine Township Highway Commissioner, a position he held for 24 years; and

WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Representative Bergman worked as a customer service representative in the vehicle service department for the Illinois Secretary of State; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman served with distinction in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1996 to 1999 as the Representative of Illinois' 54th District; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure in the 90th General Assembly, Representative Bergman sponsored 8 bills that are now Public Acts; and

WHEREAS, Upon leaving the General Assembly, Representative Bergman went on to work for Arrow Road Construction until his retirement in 2012; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman remained active in politics as a political advisor to many candidates; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a valued community servant who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of Palatine Township and of Illinois' 54th House District; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a true gentleman who loved his family, his community, his friends, politics, and history; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Bergman; and

WHEREAS, Representative Bergman is survived by his father, Vernon Bergman; his 4 children; his 6 grandchildren; his 2 siblings; and many cherished nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Representative Bergman as an expression of our deepest sympathy and most sincere appreciation of his community spirit, his service to the State of Illinois, and his dedication to the people of Illinois' 54th House District.
