| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | 4 | | State Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman, who passed away on | 5 | | November 29, 2013 at the age of 65; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was born on November 10, | 7 | | 1948 in Elgin to Vernon and Marion Bergman; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman's interest in politics was | 9 | | evident in his childhood, when he memorized the words to | 10 | | "Making of the President" and wrote many letters to White House | 11 | | officials; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was raised in the Village | 13 | | of Palatine and lived there for his entire adult life; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman graduated from Palatine | 15 | | High School before joining his father in the family's trucking | 16 | | business, Bergman Trucking; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1973, at the age of 24, Representative Bergman | 18 | | followed in his father's footsteps and was elected as the | 19 | | Palatine Township Highway Commissioner, a position he held for | 20 | | 24 years; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Representative Bergman worked | 2 | | as a customer service representative in the vehicle service | 3 | | department for the Illinois Secretary of State; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman served with distinction in | 5 | | the Illinois House of Representatives from 1996 to 1999 as the | 6 | | Representative of Illinois' 54th District; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure in the 90th General Assembly, | 8 | | Representative Bergman sponsored 8 bills that are now Public | 9 | | Acts; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Upon leaving the General Assembly, Representative | 11 | | Bergman went on to work for Arrow Road Construction until his | 12 | | retirement in 2012; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman remained active in | 14 | | politics as a political advisor to many candidates; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a valued community | 16 | | servant who worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of | 17 | | Palatine Township and of Illinois' 54th House District; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was a true gentleman who | 19 | | loved his family, his community, his friends, politics, and |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman was preceded in death by | 3 | | his mother, Marion Bergman; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Representative Bergman is survived by his father, | 5 | | Vernon Bergman; his 4 children; his 6 grandchildren; his 2 | 6 | | siblings; and many cherished nieces and nephews; therefore, be | 7 | | it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we mourn the passing of Representative Robert "Bob" Bergman, | 11 | | and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, | 12 | | and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Representative Bergman as an | 15 | | expression of our deepest sympathy and most sincere | 16 | | appreciation of his community spirit, his service to the State | 17 | | of Illinois, and his dedication to the people of Illinois' 54th | 18 | | House District.
