HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Maywood Rotary Club on 90 years of service to the community; and

WHEREAS, Rotary International is the oldest and largest service club in the world with over 1.2 million members and over 27,000 clubs in every country in the world; the first club, Chicago One, was started by Paul Harris and 4 other business men in 1905; and

WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary Club was started in January of 1924 by those from the Oak Park Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary Club has raised over $100,000 in the last 10 years and donated half of it to local service projects such as PADs Aspire, Maywood Fine Arts, the Boys and Girls Club, the Young Men's Christian Association, Boy and Girl Scout troops, and many others; the international projects have purchased emergency shelters in the Philippines, a prostatic clinic in Bolivia, a school for girls in West Africa, and land mine clearance in Mozambique; every years, it donates to the worldwide Rotary, the Gates Foundation, and UNICEF to end polio; and

WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary Club has donated over 1,700 dictionaries to every 3rd grader in District 89 and the parochial schools; it has sent Proviso East High School students to live in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, and is currently supporting a Melrose Park student who is a Rhodes Scholar studying at the University of Oxford; and

WHEREAS, A celebration in honor of the Maywood Rotary Club will be held on January 23, 2014 at Tom's Steak House in Melrose Park; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Maywood Rotary Club on 90 years of service to the surrounding community, and we wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Maywood Rotary Club as an expression of our esteem and respect.
