HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Merle
4Kirby of Greenview, who passed away on January 14, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was born on June 7, 1935 in Buffalo to
6Arthur and Opal (nee Duncan) Kirby; he graduated from Tri-City
7High School in 1953 and attended Blackburn College; he married
8Jane Armstrong on April 10, 1955; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a farmer in the Greenview area for
10many years and was employed by the Illinois Historic
11Preservation Agency for 25 years; he served on the Greenview
12School Board from 1964 to 1972; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a member of the United
14Presbyterian Church in Greenview; he was very active in the
15community and was involved in many organizations; he was
16Chairman of the Menard County Commissioners Board for 19 years,
17a member of the New Salem Shrine Club, Greenview Masonic Lodge
18#653, the Menard County Farm Bureau, Jesters, and the Ancient
19Accepted Scottish Right 33rd Degree; he was also a member of
20the United County Council of Illinois and the Greenview
21Community Fire Protection District Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby enjoyed taking fishing trips to his
2cabin in Minnesota; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was preceded in death by his wife,
4Jane; his son, Patrick "Fudd"; his brothers, James, John,
5Eugene, and Donald; his brother-in-law, Bill Armstrong; and his
6sister-in-law, Susan Armstrong; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Merle Kirby is survived by his daughter, Durinda
8Kirby; his son, Mike (Lori); his brother, William Dean Kirby;
9his grandchildren, Landon "Hoss" (Jamie) Kirby, Natasha (Adam)
10Bacon, and Kaylee Kirby; his step-grandchildren, Ryan and
11Jeremy "Tank" Hatfield; and his great-grandchildren, Kirby Jo
12and Milo Bacon; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of Merle Kirby, and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Merle Kirby as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
