HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Merle Kirby of Greenview, who passed away on January 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was born on June 7, 1935 in Buffalo to Arthur and Opal (nee Duncan) Kirby; he graduated from Tri-City High School in 1953 and attended Blackburn College; he married Jane Armstrong on April 10, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a farmer in the Greenview area for many years and was employed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency for 25 years; he served on the Greenview School Board from 1964 to 1972; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Greenview; he was very active in the community and was involved in many organizations; he was Chairman of the Menard County Commissioners Board for 19 years, a member of the New Salem Shrine Club, Greenview Masonic Lodge #653, the Menard County Farm Bureau, Jesters, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Right 33rd Degree; he was also a member of the United County Council of Illinois and the Greenview Community Fire Protection District Board; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby enjoyed taking fishing trips to his cabin in Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his son, Patrick "Fudd"; his brothers, James, John, Eugene, and Donald; his brother-in-law, Bill Armstrong; and his sister-in-law, Susan Armstrong; and

WHEREAS, Merle Kirby is survived by his daughter, Durinda Kirby; his son, Mike (Lori); his brother, William Dean Kirby; his grandchildren, Landon "Hoss" (Jamie) Kirby, Natasha (Adam) Bacon, and Kaylee Kirby; his step-grandchildren, Ryan and Jeremy "Tank" Hatfield; and his great-grandchildren, Kirby Jo and Milo Bacon; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Merle Kirby, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Merle Kirby as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
