HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Fry Elementary School fifth grader Katherin Smirnov on winning first place in the national InvestWrite essay contest; and

WHEREAS, InvestWrite is an innovative national essay writing competition available to students in elementary through high school and a culminating activity of The Stock Market Game program; the SIFMA Foundation, producers of the Stock Market Game and InvestWrite, is dedicated to providing financial education for people of all ages through innovative programs that promote financial independence; and

WHEREAS, Entrants were instructed to describe an item they wished to save for and make a presentation about saving and investing in order to reach their intended goal within 10 years; they could choose 2 stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, or any combination and had to explain why they chose the investments they did and how they did their research; and

WHEREAS, Katherin Smirnov will be presented her award at an assembly at Fry Elementary School on February 20, 2014; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Katherin Smirnov on winning first place in the national InvestWrite essay contest and wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Katherin Smirnov as an expression of our esteem and respect.
