HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mattie Jennings Trice of Chicago, who passed away on February 13, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice was born on November 29, 1926 in Verona, Mississippi to the late Enes and Rev. Robert L. Jennings; she was the fifth of 10 siblings; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice received her formal education at the Mary C. Wade Elementary School in Verona, Mississippi and the Lee County Training School in Tupelo, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice married Verdell Trice in 1945; the couple moved to Chicago in 1953 and joined the St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago; she was an efficient homemaker and assisted her husband with the family business; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice was preceded in death by her 6 brothers; her 3 sisters; and her son, Verdell R. Trice; and

WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice is survived by her husband of 69 years, Verdell; her goddaughter, Alenya Ison-Thomas (Khalmus); her special niece, Gwendolyn J. Harris; her special cousin, Henry F. Jennings; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mattie Jennings Trice and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mattie Jennings Trice as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
