HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School Debate Team has had a successful 2013-14 season, with great team and individual success in both Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas Debate formats; and

WHEREAS, Both styles of debate require not only the development of rhetorical and analytical skills, but also a deep understanding of topics derived only from many hours of independent research and writing; and

WHEREAS, Libertyville High School recently sent a large delegation of 1st and 2nd-year debaters to the Illinois Communication and Theater Association State Tournament on the weekend of March 14, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Sophomore Elizabeth Murphy placed 9th and sophomore Ken Wu placed 13th in Junior Varsity Lincoln Douglas-Debate, while freshman Alo Garcia-Escobar placed 13th in the State in novice Lincoln-Douglas style debate, and freshman Manal Ahmed placed 10th in Speaker for Public Forum; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association administers the Varsity State Debate Tournament each year, affording experienced high school students the opportunity to compete against the finest quality debaters in the State, this year hosted at the University of Illinois-Springfield the weekend of March 21, 2014; and

WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School delegation of debaters to the Varsity State Tournament is composed of juniors Ankur Rastogi, Holly Miller, Pooja Sajeev, Aasimah Tanveer, Lucia Zhang, and senior Stevie Zheng; and

WHEREAS, Coaches Dennis Duffy, Sarah Greenswag, and Brian Voss have great pride in their team's hard work, dedication, and success throughout the school year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the talent and ability of these students and coaches and congratulate them on their achievements this season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Libertyville High School Debate Team as an expression of our esteem and with best wishes for continued academic success.
