SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are proud to recognize those who distinguish themselves in society; and

WHEREAS, Stan Musial, a career player with the St. Louis Cardinals and a Hall of Famer, hit .331 in a 22-season Major League Baseball career; and

WHEREAS, Stan Musial passed away on January 19, 2013 at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting that we honor the life and legacy of Stan Musial by naming the new bridge carrying Interstate 70 over the Mississippi River in his honor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the new bridge carrying Interstate 70 over the Mississippi River as the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations on the Illinois portion of the bridge, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name of the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge; and be it further

RESOLVED, That this resolution shall not become effective until the State of Missouri designates, through legislative act or otherwise, the portion of the bridge described in this resolution which is owned and maintained by the State of Missouri as the "Stan Musial Memorial Bridge"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation and the family of Stan Musial.
