SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bessie Mary Wiley of Memphis, Tennessee, who passed away on April 1, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley was born on September 27, 1931 in Yazoo, Mississippi; her parents were Columbus and Bessie (nee Simpson) Wiley; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley attended Grant Elementary School and Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley accepted Christ at an early age and attended First Chelsea Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee for more than 70 years; she was a faithful and active member of the choir, mother board, Sunday school, hospitality, and environmental service for many years; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley was employed at Memphis State University for 26 years as environmental servant; after retiring, she worked for Senior Services, Inc. until 2011; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Merk, James, Johnnie, and Albert Wiley; her sister, Emma Claxton; and sons, James and Gregory Wiley; and

WHEREAS, Bessie Wiley is survived by sons, Clint, Clyde, and James Wiley; daughters, Flora, Wanda, Edwina Wiley and Janice Mallory; grandchildren, Beau Danner (Rashawnda), Jarrett Mallory, Jr., Carol, Monica Johnson, Mario Johnson, Lashaundra and LaQuinton Banks, Sierra Brock, Janelle Wiley, and Regina Wiley; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Laverne Wiley; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Bessie Mary Wiley; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bessie Wiley as an expression of our sympathy.
