SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Pennington McGee, formerly of Chicago, who passed away on April 8, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was born in Alton on September 29, 1945 to Thomas and Christeen (nee Harrison) McGee; he graduated from Alton High School in 1963 and studied at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio; he transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his bachelor's degree in fine arts; and

WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was employed in various fields of art and was well known for creating street portraits in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood; he loved music and had the pleasure of playing with many renowned musicians; and

WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was a member of Greater St. James Baptist Church in Alton, and, later in life, he joined the First Baptist Congregational Church in Chicago, where he served on the Music Ministry and as a member of the Sanctuary Choir; and

WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles McGee; and a daughter, Elizabeth Chante McGee; and

WHEREAS, Pennington McGee is survived by his wife of 7 years, Daisy Ingram (nee Farmer) McGee; 2 sons, State Representative Kenneth McGee (Yolanda) Dunkin and Matthew McGee (Lena) Johnson; 3 sisters, JoAnn McGee Winburn, Eva (Michael) McGee Edwards, and Patricia (Elam) McGee King; 17 grandchildren, Chakita, Robert, Rashay, Anthony, Avonte, Silvanna, Shawnteria, Kenyatta Sacha, Kendall, Kennedy, Brei'Ana, Matthew Jr., Christain, Nicholas, Maximos, Nathaniel, and Destiny; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Pennington McGee, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to State Representative Kenneth Dunkin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
