SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bruce William Viernow of Glen Ellyn, who
4passed away on February 25, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruce Viernow was born in Chicago on April 23,
61939 to William and Martha (nee Helmken); he graduated from
7Foreman High School in 1957; after working for a short while
8reading gas meters, he attended Carthage College, graduating in
91962 with a degree in business; he later received his master's
10degree in business from Northern Illinois University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bruce Viernow began his career in 1962 working at
12Field Elementary School in Elmhurst; later he taught history
13and coached basketball at Yorkfield Elementary and Bryan Middle
14Schools in Elmhurst; he worked as a teacher and administrator
15at Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn for 27 years from
161967 to 1994; he was principal of Mooseheart Middle and High
17Schools near Aurora from 1994 to 1997; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bruce Viernow was commissioner of the Elmhurst
19Park District softball program from 1963 to 1976, transforming
20a struggling league of 10 teams into one with 3 divisions and
21more than 30 teams; and

1    WHEREAS, Bruce Viernow was preceded in death by his
2parents, and by his first wife, Kathleen (nee Bock); and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bruce Viernow is survived by his wife, Julie (nee
4Brusca) Dagnon, whom he married in 1992; children Tyler, Lisa
5(Bruce) Acord, Julie (Charles) Siebel, John (Amy) Dagnon, and
6Michael (Laura) Dagnon; grandchildren, Brad Acord, Kathleen
7Acord, Trey Siebel, Cassidy Siebel, and Drew Dagnon; sister,
8Sandra (the late Ronald) Piper; and several nieces and nephews;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Bruce William Viernow, and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Bruce Viernow as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
