SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joyce (nee Thomas) Williams of Waukegan, who passed away on April 12, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Williams was born on August 29, 1929 in Austin, Texas to Roger and Eva Thomas, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Williams retired as a special education teacher with the Waukegan Independent School District, teaching at Lyons and Washington Schools; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Williams was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Waukegan, the Waukegan Uptown Lions Club, the Women With Money Investment Club, the North Shore Community Service League, The Links, Incorporated-Harbor Lites Chapter, and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.-Sigma Phi Zeta Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Williams was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Williams is survived by her husband, Augustus D. Williams; 2 step-daughters, Rossana Williams and Shirlisa (Garland) Hamiltion; 2 step-sons, Gregory Williams and Augustus Williams, III; 5 grandchildren, Dawn Williams, Jordan Williams, Ian Edy, Demetri Morris Williams, and Colin Dean Edwards; 5 siblings, Narva (Therman) Kirby, Mae Thelma Turman, George R. (Cheryl) Thomas, Donna (Alfred) Thomas Clark, and Linda C. Thomas; 3 sisters-in-law, Georgia Nell Thomas, Peggy Shields, and Jackie Williams; 5 nieces, Marsha (Donald) Woods Bratton, Lauralyn E. Jeter, Monica Woods, Eva Lee-Andra Hicks, and Ri-Chard Thomas; 6 nephews, Tillman "Seeker" Woods, Cory House, Richard Kirby, Gregory Karo, Jadaun Clark, and Michael Thomas; 3 cousins, Mary Alice Bess, Judy Carter, and Opal Thomas; 2 goddaughters, Sherida Murphy and Patricia Pitts O'Neal; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and life-long friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joyce Williams, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joyce Williams as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
