SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ulice "Uke" Strickland of Chicago, who passed away on April 27, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was born in Greenville, Mississippi on December 2, 1927 to Theodore Strickland and Odessa Walker; he moved to Chicago and attended Medill Grammar and High School; he married Florence Kelly on April 8, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland worked at Fulton Markets and then the Chicago Housing Authority; he eventually began working for the Chicago Police Department and spent 29 years with the Department in the Traffic Division; and

WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church starting in June of 1966, and then First Immanuel Lutheran in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Theal Colbert and Lauvarge Black; and brother, Willie (Roberta) Strickland; and

WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland is survived by his daughter, Elaine; son, Eric (Diahann); brothers-in-law, James Worsham and Dennis Kelly; grandchildren, Eric Matthew, Mark Terry, Eric Dane, and Nicole Monet; great-grandchild, Anthony Dane; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ulice "Uke" Strickland, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ulice Strickland as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
