SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Patricia Rose (nee Cleary) Carney of Joliet, who passed away on May 6, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Carney was born in Peoria on June 18, 1926 to Harold and Cecilia Cleary; she attended the Academy of Our Lady High School and graduated from Bradley University in 1948, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority; she later pursued graduate studies in Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago; she married Lt. Col. John Francis, M.D. on December 22, 1951 at St. Mark's Church in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Carney worked for the American Red Cross; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Carney was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and other charitable organizations; she enjoyed gazing out her window at the gentle sunsets, the frenetic play of squirrels and raccoons, and the vibrant flowers encircling the family home at her "heavenly hill"; she also enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren participate in Irish dance, basketball, and tennis; she made multiple trims to Jamaica with her family, where a charitable dental clinic was established in her honor in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Carney was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carney; her mother, Cecilia Cleary (nee Render); and her father, Harold Cleary; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Carney is survived by her sister, Ava (late Robert) Ossenbeck; her sons, John Michael Carney, M.D., Patrick (Deborah) Carney, M.D., Brian (Darena) Carney, Paul Carney, James (Susan) Carney, D.D.S., and the Honorable Thomas (Anne) Carney; and 12 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Patricia Rose Carney, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patricia Carney as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
