SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joel Kagann of Woodridge; and

WHEREAS, Joel Kagann, a founding member of the Village of Woodridge, served a storied career with the village, first as its chief of police from 1962 until 1971, then as mayor from 1973 to 1977, and village clerk from 1979 to 1981; he served as a member and president of the Police Pension Board from 1990 until 2008; he was the clerk of the 18th Judicial Court for 31 years until his retirement in 2004; he was a founding member of St. Scholastica Parish; and

WHEREAS, Joel Kagann continued his long career of contributing to his community with his involvement in the Boy Scouts and the Lions Club, and serving as president of the Woodridge Special Events Committee; in 2000, he and his wife, Laurie, were selected as co-recipients of Woodridge's prestigious "Building on Our Dream Award" for their significant contributions to Woodridge; in 2009, on the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Woodridge, Town Centre was re-dedicated as Kagann Plaza; and

WHEREAS, Joel Kagann and Laurie raised both of their children in Woodridge, and their son, Joseph, is following in his father's footsteps with his community involvement as a trustee on the village board; and

WHEREAS, Joel Kagann was preceded in death by his brother, Aaron R. Kagann; and

WHEREAS, Joel Kagann was the beloved husband of Laurie (nee Klauser); father of Joseph and Carol (Ted) Johnson; and grandfather of Travis Kagann Johnson and Mackenzie Kagann Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joel Kagann, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joel Kagann as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
