SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joel Kagann of Woodridge; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joel Kagann, a founding member of the Village of
5Woodridge, served a storied career with the village, first as
6its chief of police from 1962 until 1971, then as mayor from
71973 to 1977, and village clerk from 1979 to 1981; he served as
8a member and president of the Police Pension Board from 1990
9until 2008; he was the clerk of the 18th Judicial Court for 31
10years until his retirement in 2004; he was a founding member of
11St. Scholastica Parish; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Joel Kagann continued his long career of
13contributing to his community with his involvement in the Boy
14Scouts and the Lions Club, and serving as president of the
15Woodridge Special Events Committee; in 2000, he and his wife,
16Laurie, were selected as co-recipients of Woodridge's
17prestigious "Building on Our Dream Award" for their significant
18contributions to Woodridge; in 2009, on the 50th anniversary of
19the incorporation of Woodridge, Town Centre was re-dedicated as
20Kagann Plaza; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Joel Kagann and Laurie raised both of their
22children in Woodridge, and their son, Joseph, is following in

1his father's footsteps with his community involvement as a
2trustee on the village board; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joel Kagann was preceded in death by his brother,
4Aaron R. Kagann; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joel Kagann was the beloved husband of Laurie (nee
6Klauser); father of Joseph and Carol (Ted) Johnson; and
7grandfather of Travis Kagann Johnson and Mackenzie Kagann
8Johnson; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Joel Kagann, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Joel Kagann as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
