SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judge Stanley J. Roszkowski of Rockford,
4who passed away on July 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was born in Boonville, New York
6on January 27, 1923 to Anna and Joseph Roszkowski; he spent
7most of his early years in Royalton; during World War II, he
8served as a nose gunner on a B-24 for the United States Army
9Air Corps, flying 34 missions in the European Theater;
10following the war, he earned his bachelor's degree in 1949, and
11his law degree in 1954, both from the University of Illinois at
12Urbana-Champaign; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was nominated to the United
14States District Court in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter; for 7
15years he heard cases in Chicago full-time and in Rockford
16part-time; he advocated a permanent court in Rockford to better
17serve the area, and in November of 1984, he was assigned to
18become the first full-time district court judge of the Northern
19District of Illinois's Western Division; he served in this
20capacity until his retirement in 1998; after his retirement, he
21continued to work for many years as a mediator; prior to his
22time on the bench, he worked for 22 years as a trial lawyer in
23Rockford; and

1    WHEREAS, On October 29, 2011, the federal government
2dedicated the Stanley J. Roszkowski United States Courthouse in
3downtown Rockford; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski was preceded in death by his wife
5of 61 years, Cathy; his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; and 2
6brothers-in-law; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Judge Roszkowski is survived by his 4 sons, Mark
8(Christie) Roszkowski, Greg (Pat) Roszkowski, Dan (Lynne)
9Roszkowski, and John (Maggie) Roszkowski; 4 grandchildren,
10Amanda, Alex, Anna, and Marc; his sister, Lovean Barnich; his
11sister-in-law, Jeanne Claeys; and numerous nieces and nephews;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Judge Stanley J. Roszkowski, and extend our sincere condolences
16to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Judge Roszkowski as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
