SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John E. "Jack" Smith of Beach Park, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born on December 20, 1936 in Sedalia, Missouri, and was a Waukegan resident most of his life, living in Beach Park for the past 22 years; he graduated from the University of Kansas with an accounting degree, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Jack Smith retired from Abbott Laboratories; and

WHEREAS, Jack Smith enjoyed sailing, racing sailboats, and was commodore of the Waukegan Yacht Club in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Elgin and Dorothy Smith; and

WHEREAS, Jack Smith was survived by his wife, Debbie Smith; his daughter, Kelly (Richard) Luteijn; grandson, Finn; 2 sisters, Sue Bastin and Judy Schuck; sister-in-law, Kim (John) Guercio; and his special poodles, Tiffani and Tinkerbell; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John E. "Jack" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jack Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
