SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bishop Val Johnson of Peoria, who passed
4away on September 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bishop Val Johnson was born on January 6, 1917 in
6Chicago; his parents were James Garfield and Nellie (nee
7Currie) Johnson; he married Leah G. Thomas, who preceded him in
8death in 2001; he later married Sarah B. (nee Davis) McNeil on
9November 30, 2002; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bishop Val Johnson served as Pastor of the
11Pentecostal Church of Jesus from 1962 until his retirement in
122007; he also worked as a City of Peoria Plumbing Inspector
13until his retirement in 1989 after 25 years of service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bishop Val Johnson was preceded in death by his
15parents; 2 brothers, Raymond and Emanuel Johnson; and a sister,
16Rochella Manuel; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bishop Val Johnson is survived by his loving wife,
18Sarah Johnson; 14 children; Byron Val (Anita) Johnson, Valerie
19Leah Harrell, Yvonne Alice Jordan, Yvette Alice Cummings,
20Felicia Helen Carreker, Earl "Baker" McNeil, Sidney McNeil,
21Wendell McNeil, Glenna Lee Branscumb, Joann (Michael) Kirksey,

1Clora Lee Johnson, Donna Bess McNeil, Sandra (De Wayne) Harris,
2and Janice McNeil; 34 grandchildren; and many
3great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
6family and friends, mourn the passing of Bishop Val Johnson;
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Bishop Val Johnson as an expression
10of our sympathy.
