SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clarence W. Schawk, who passed away on
4September 20, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was born on March 21, 1926 in
6Chicago; his parents were Clarence E. and Adell (nee Treptow)
7Schawk; he married Marilyn Rieck on June 6, 1953 in Chicago;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was a proud member of the United
10States Marine Corps' 2nd Division, 2nd Battalion in the Pacific
11theater during the infamous Battle of Okinawa; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk was the founder and longtime owner
13and operator of Schawk, Inc. in Chicago; he and his wife were
14also the owners and operators of the Geneva Inn on Lake Geneva;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk and his wife were the founders of
17the Clarence W. and Marilyn G. Schawk Family Foundation, which
18has been involved with many organizations, including the
19Chicago Lutheran Educational Fund, the United Way, the National
20Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, the National Foundation for
21Abused and Neglected Children, the Neediest Kids Fund, the

1Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts of America, the LEAPS Program at
2Valparaiso University, the Marine Corps Scholarship
3Foundation, inner city schools in Chicago, The Time is Now, and
4several other worthy causes; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clarence Schawk is survived by his wife of 61
6years, Marilyn; a sister, Dorothy Schawk; 4 children, Cathy
7Schawk, David (Teryl) Schawk, Judy (Bruce) Gallo, and Lisa
8(Scott) Stearns; 7 grandchildren, Kelly (Rob) Douglass,
9Colleen (Tom) Barlo, Kara (Adam) O'Dempsey, Jessica Gallo,
10William Stearns, Mallory Stearns, and Sarah Stearns; and 6
11great-grandchildren, Ava, Tyler, Addison, Trevor, Travis, and
12Scarlet; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Clarence W. Schawk;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Clarence Schawk as an expression of
19our sympathy.
