SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nota J. Kallianis of Waukegan, who passed away on April 12, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Nota Kallianis was born on March 27, 1927, in Daphni, Greece; in March of 1969 she brought her children with her to the United States and joined her husband, Dimitrios Kallianis, in Waukegan, who had previously come to the U.S. after political unrest in their native Greece; and

WHEREAS, Nota Kallianis helped her son, Dino, and her daughter, Renee, build Captain Porky's restaurant, where she worked until age 83 and was known as a great chef and affectionately known to the customers as "mama"; and

WHEREAS, Nota Kallianis loved nature, animals, gardening, and flowers and on a weekly basis would give her neighbors fresh baked bread, flowers, and vegetables that she had grown herself; and

WHEREAS, Nota Kallianis was preceded in death by her husband, Dimitrios; her sister, Katerina Thanou; and her brothers, Nicholas and Vassilios Gianoulis; and

WHEREAS, Nota Kallianis was the beloved mother of Renee Kallianis (George) Andrianakis, George (Elaine) Kallianis, Dino (Elaine) Kallianis, and Joan (David) Murphy; the loving grandmother of Dean and James Andrianakis, Patricia and James Kallianis, Dimitrios (fiancee Kristina) Kallianis, George (Jenna) Kallianis, Notah Kallianis, and Jacqueline and Stephanie Murphy; the loving great-grandmother of Constantine Douglas Kallianis; the dear sister of George (Christina) Gianoulis; and the sister-in-law of Vasiliki Moutis; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Nota Kallianis, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nota Kallianis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
