SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James A. Burton Jr. of Springfield, who passed away on May 11, 2013; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. was born on June 17, 1941, in Springfield; his parents were James A. Burton Sr. and Eurlene Jackson; he was married to Cheryl N. Burton for many years; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. served his country with pride as a member of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. was the owner of the "Mr. Burton's" clothing store and several record stores; he also sold cars at Charlie Satler's for many years; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. attended St. John A.M.E. Church; he was also an active member of American Legion Post #809, where he served as a Past 1st and 2nd Vice Commander; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edna Mae Anderson; and

WHEREAS, James Burton Jr. is survived by his sons, Richard Burton and Shane Burton (Felicia); his daughters, Alice Hicks (Gary), Marsha Gray (Robert), and Carla Burton; his 14 grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James A. Burton Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Burton Jr. as an expression of our sympathy.
