SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr. of Peoria, who
4passed away on May 8, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was born on November 20, 1933,
6in Gainesville, Alabama, and was raised in York, Alabama; his
7parents were John L. and Sephronia Ivory; he married Gladys
8Sturdivant on August 20, 1953, in Meridian, Mississippi; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. retired from Allied and Hyster's
10Construction Companies in 1973 before being called to the
11pastorship; he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for 40
12years and directed the church's activities; during his
13leadership, the church grew to over 800 members; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was a past moderator of the
15Central District Association, past president of the Baptist
16Ministerial Alliance and the Central District Congress of
17Christian Education, and a member of the Peoria Christian
18Leadership Council; he was also a past board member of the
19Minority Affairs Council for the Illinois Department of
20Transportation for District 4, dedicated to improving minority
21participation for black contractors, and a past board member of
22the Central Illinois Black Expo; and

1    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. enjoyed watching the Chicago
2Cubs, fishing, and cooking; he also enjoyed spending time with
3his wife, children, grandchildren, and church family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is preceded in death by his
5parents; his son, Jeffery Ivory, Jr.; his daughter, Erica Dawn
6Ivory; and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is survived by his beloved wife
8of almost 60 years, Gladys Ivory; his sons, Ricky (Carolyn)
9Ivory, Larry (Janis) Ivory, Rodney (Jennifer) Ivory, and Darren
10Ivory; his daughters, Lorraine (William) Sephus, Teresa
11(Lonnie) Hayes, Beverly (Eric) Cameron, and Ariel Ivory; his
12sister, Marjorite Shelton; his 18 grandchildren; his 22
13great-grandchildren; his 3 great-great-grandchildren; his
14godson, Jamar Thomas; his many nieces, nephews, other
15relatives, and friends; and his Grace Baptist Church family;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of Pastor Jeffery Ivory
20Sr.; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2of our sympathy.
