SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Martin "Marty" Albert Powers of Elgin, who passed away on June 23, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Martin Powers was born to Dr. Richard and Dorothy Powers and raised in Elgin; he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Martin Powers worked as a basketball coach and English and drama teacher at Kimball Middle School for the past 24 years; and

WHEREAS, Martin Powers was an avid fan of the Northwestern Wildcats and the Elgin High School Maroons; he was a frequent patron of community theatre, the Gail Borden Library, Paul's, and Al's; he was a prolific writer, performer, and speaker and formed the Powers Entertainment group to produce and promote film; he gave memorable performances in local theatre productions including "Dial M for Murder" and "It's a Wonderful Life"; he enjoyed playing golf, listening to classic Rock N' Roll, and the Beatles; and

WHEREAS, Martin Powers was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael; and

WHEREAS, Martin Powers is survived by his brothers, Jerry, David, and Craig (Nancy); his sister, Carole Akemann; his nieces and nephews, Chris, Jordan, Taylor, Maggie, Lauren, Max, and Jason (Jennifer) Akemann and Jessica (Peter) Isaac; his aunt and uncle, John and Marilyn Simpson; and his cousins, Jeff (Bertie), Janet (Mick), Doug (Stacey), Diane, and Laura; and he was the great uncle of John and Andrew Isaac and Grace Akemann; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Martin Albert Powers, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Martin Powers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
