SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martin "Marty" Albert Powers of Elgin,
4who passed away on June 23, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Powers was born to Dr. Richard and Dorothy
6Powers and raised in Elgin; he received his undergraduate and
7graduate degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Martin Powers worked as a basketball coach and
9English and drama teacher at Kimball Middle School for the past
1024 years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Martin Powers was an avid fan of the Northwestern
12Wildcats and the Elgin High School Maroons; he was a frequent
13patron of community theatre, the Gail Borden Library, Paul's,
14and Al's; he was a prolific writer, performer, and speaker and
15formed the Powers Entertainment group to produce and promote
16film; he gave memorable performances in local theatre
17productions including "Dial M for Murder" and "It's a Wonderful
18Life"; he enjoyed playing golf, listening to classic Rock N'
19Roll, and the Beatles; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Martin Powers was preceded in death by his parents
21and his brother, Michael; and

1    WHEREAS, Martin Powers is survived by his brothers, Jerry,
2David, and Craig (Nancy); his sister, Carole Akemann; his
3nieces and nephews, Chris, Jordan, Taylor, Maggie, Lauren, Max,
4and Jason (Jennifer) Akemann and Jessica (Peter) Isaac; his
5aunt and uncle, John and Marilyn Simpson; and his cousins, Jeff
6(Bertie), Janet (Mick), Doug (Stacey), Diane, and Laura; and he
7was the great uncle of John and Andrew Isaac and Grace Akemann;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Martin Albert Powers, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Martin Powers as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
