SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Daniel Joseph Edelman of
4Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Edelman was born in Manhattan in New York
6City on July 3, 1920, to Selig and Selma Edelman; he graduated
7from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and from Columbia
8University in 1940; he spent time as a sports reporter and
9served in the U.S. Army during World War II; after the war, he
10was a night reporter for CBS in New York and worked as a
11publicist for Musicraft Records; he married Ruth Ann Rozumoff;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, By 1947, Daniel Edelman was living in Chicago; he
14was the founder and chairman of one of the largest public
15relations firms in the world and a groundbreaker in the field;
16he began his company in a small office in Chicago in 1952 and
17it has grown to include 63 offices in 26 countries, with more
18than 4,600 employees; and
 
19    WHEREAS, His company has helped build such well-known
20brands as Sara Lee, KFC, Microsoft, Pfizer, General Electric,
21Wal-Mart Stores, Abbott Laboratories, Samsung, Royal Dutch
22Shell, Kraft, Johnson & Johnson, and Unilever; and

1    WHEREAS, Daniel Edelman is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann;
2his sons, John and Richard; his daughter, Renee; and his 3
3granddaughters; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Daniel Edelman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Daniel Edelman as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
