SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George R. Likes of Woodburn, who passed away on July 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, George Likes was born on January 23, 1930, in Bunker Hill to George R., Sr. and Nellie Velma (nee Spillman) Likes; he was raised by his father and stepmother, Easter (nee Donaldson) Likes; he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War; he married Bette Viola Davis in March 1954; and

WHEREAS, George Likes was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass and the Olin Corporation; and

WHEREAS, George Likes was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, Blues, and Rams; he enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, and handing down his appreciation for professional wrestling to his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, George Likes was preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents; his stepmother; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Loretta Likes; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ernest and Betty Giller and Jesse and Louella Arnold; and his stepsister, Velma Thornton; and

WHEREAS, George Likes is survived by his children, Sherry (Lucky) Bodenbach, George Terry Likes, Rhonda (Bruce) Scott, Tim (Patrice) Likes, Patricia (LaMonte) Pierce, and Kristi Likes; his grandchildren, Tim "TG" Likes (fiance Christen Skelly), Maggie Scott, Mollie (Jeff) Odgen, Makenzie Scott, Jeana Pierce, and Jordan Bodenbach; his great-granddaughter, Kylee Viola Ogden; his sister-in-law, Josephine Lockard; his brothers, Herb (Helen) Davis and Gene (Mary) Davis; and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of George R. Likes, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Likes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
