SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elyssa Rosen, who passed away on October
426, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen was born and raised in Oak Park; she
6attended Oak Park elementary schools and graduated from Oak
7Park and River Forest High School; she received her Bachelor of
8Science in Journalism from the University of Illinois and
9earned her Master of Arts in Public Policy at the University of
10Colorado at Boulder; she also did research in Marine
11Behavioural Ecology at the University of Victoria in British
12Columbia; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen was a lifetime environmental
14conservationist; she was a passionate advocate for
15environmental issues and was published in scientific journals
16and opinion pages; she served on non-profit boards and trained
17and supported conservation groups across the Americas; she
18played significant roles at the Sierra Club and the Great Basin
19Mine Watch in Nevada, as an independent consultant for a
20variety of environmental efforts, and at the Pew Charitable
21Trust; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen lived a short but rich life, infused

1by the Oak Park and River Forest High School motto, "Those
2Things That Are Best"; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen is survived by her fiance, Matt
4Newberry; her father, Martin Rosen; her mother, Elaine Bauman;
5her sisters Karen Thornburg and Lena Wegner; and many other
6family members; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Elyssa Rosen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
10friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Elyssa Rosen as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
