SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elyssa Rosen, who passed away on October 26, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen was born and raised in Oak Park; she attended Oak Park elementary schools and graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School; she received her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Illinois and earned her Master of Arts in Public Policy at the University of Colorado at Boulder; she also did research in Marine Behavioural Ecology at the University of Victoria in British Columbia; and

WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen was a lifetime environmental conservationist; she was a passionate advocate for environmental issues and was published in scientific journals and opinion pages; she served on non-profit boards and trained and supported conservation groups across the Americas; she played significant roles at the Sierra Club and the Great Basin Mine Watch in Nevada, as an independent consultant for a variety of environmental efforts, and at the Pew Charitable Trust; and

WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen lived a short but rich life, infused by the Oak Park and River Forest High School motto, "Those Things That Are Best"; and

WHEREAS, Elyssa Rosen is survived by her fiance, Matt Newberry; her father, Martin Rosen; her mother, Elaine Bauman; her sisters Karen Thornburg and Lena Wegner; and many other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elyssa Rosen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elyssa Rosen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
