SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Emmett J. Severson, who passed away on December 16, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Emmett Severson was born in Verona; his parents were John and Maren (Habberstad) Severson; and

WHEREAS, Emmett Severson worked as a farmer during his youth in Grundy County; he later farmed in Jackson Township until his retirement in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Emmett Severson was a former member of the Knights of Columbus; he ushered at St. Paul the Apostle Church for 35 years; he was a member and past officer of the Will County Farm Bureau and met with the United States Secretary of Agriculture in the late 1960s to speak on area farming issues; he was also a member of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, the Elwood Sportsmans Club, and the Paulites; and

WHEREAS, Emmett Severson was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Irene; and

WHEREAS, Emmett Severson is survived by his daughter, Susan Roncone; his son, John Severson; his grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Severson, Erik Roncone, Jonathan Roncone, Alexander Roncone, Bridgette Guyer, MD, Neil Severson; and his step-grandsons, Josh Martinez and Nickolas Martinez; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Emmett J. Severson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Emmett Severson as an expression of our sympathy.
