SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois legislator David J. Regner, who passed away on December 17, 2013; and

WHEREAS, David Regner was born in Chicago to Joseph and Catherine (nee Schramm) Regner; he graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; and

WHEREAS, David Regner worked as an auditor and insurance broker and ran a consulting firm, Regner Enterprises Insurance; and

WHEREAS, David Regner had a long history of civic involvement, including service as an auditor of Elk Grove Township and as the first Vice-President of the Cook County Auditors' Association; he also held local and State offices with the Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, David Regner served as a Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1967 to 1972 and as a member of the Illinois State Senate from 1973-1980; he was also deputy committeeman for the Elk Grove Township Republican Organization and a member of the Platform Committee of the Illinois State Republican Committee in 1966, 1968, and 1970, serving as secretary in 1966; in 1980, he was a State campaign coordinator for presidential candidate Ronald Regan and Chairman of the Illinois Regan Delegate Committee; and

WHEREAS, David Regner caught the political bug again and successfully ran for Palatine Township Supervisor in 1993, a post he held for 4 terms until 2005; and

WHEREAS, David Regner was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan (nee Scanlan); his second wife, Joyce (nee LeFarie); his son, David Michael Regner; and his parents; and

WHEREAS, David Regner is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Mullen-Regner; his grandchildren, Jennifer Ryder, David Jason Regner, Anna Gustafson, Nicole and Emma Walsh, and Zachary Stewart; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Nathan, Lily, and Wyatt Ryder; his sisters, Dorothy (Norman) Delphey, Barbara Regner, and Marie Smizinski; and his daughter-in-law, Donna Regner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois legislator David J. Regner, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Regner as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
