SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Don Maurice Jacobs of Palatine, who
4passed away on December 28, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was born on November 9, 1934 in
6Corwith, Iowa to Roy and Phildred (nee Izzard) Jacobs; he
7graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; he married
8Jo Ann Bacon in 1957 and served in the United States Army; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs settled in Palatine in 1959 and began
10his career with Pure Oil/Unocal; he retired in 1993 after 37
11years of service; he provided management consulting services in
12the Chicago area from 1993 to 2011; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was active in the First United
14Methodist Church of Palatine, the Kiwanis Club, the Plum Grove
15Estates Homeowners Association, and the Palatine Rural Fire
16Board; he formerly was on the Palatine Library Board, serving
17as President for a time; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs enjoyed playing the piano and pipe
19organ; he was the organist for the First United Methodist
20Church of Palatine and a substitute organist for many other
21churches in the area; he also enjoyed family activities,

1travel, photography, fishing, and trips with the family to
2their cabin at Siren, Wisconsin; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was preceded in death by his parents;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was the beloved husband of 56 years of
6Jo Ann; the loving father of Barbara (Glenn) Gustafson and
7Thomas (Linda) Jacobs; the cherished grandfather of Robert
8(Jacqueline), Michael and Matthew Gustafson, and Amanda and
9Rebecca Jacobs; the dear brother of Cecil (Marlene) Jacobs, Jo
10Anne Gentle, Kay Karsjens, and Michael (Trish) Jacobs; and
11uncle to many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Don Maurice Jacobs, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Don Jacobs as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
