SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Don Maurice Jacobs of Palatine, who passed away on December 28, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was born on November 9, 1934 in Corwith, Iowa to Roy and Phildred (nee Izzard) Jacobs; he graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; he married Jo Ann Bacon in 1957 and served in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs settled in Palatine in 1959 and began his career with Pure Oil/Unocal; he retired in 1993 after 37 years of service; he provided management consulting services in the Chicago area from 1993 to 2011; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was active in the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, the Kiwanis Club, the Plum Grove Estates Homeowners Association, and the Palatine Rural Fire Board; he formerly was on the Palatine Library Board, serving as President for a time; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs enjoyed playing the piano and pipe organ; he was the organist for the First United Methodist Church of Palatine and a substitute organist for many other churches in the area; he also enjoyed family activities, travel, photography, fishing, and trips with the family to their cabin at Siren, Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was the beloved husband of 56 years of Jo Ann; the loving father of Barbara (Glenn) Gustafson and Thomas (Linda) Jacobs; the cherished grandfather of Robert (Jacqueline), Michael and Matthew Gustafson, and Amanda and Rebecca Jacobs; the dear brother of Cecil (Marlene) Jacobs, Jo Anne Gentle, Kay Karsjens, and Michael (Trish) Jacobs; and uncle to many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Don Maurice Jacobs, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Jacobs as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
