SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerald J. "Chic" Anderson of Palatine,
4who passed away on December 4, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson was born on December 10, 1928 in
6Cambridge; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson was the former Athletic Director
8of Palatine High School; under his leadership, Palatine High
9School athletic programs gained recognition in the Northwest
10suburbs and the State of Illinois for their integrity,
11competitiveness, and school spirit; upon his retirement in
121988, Palatine High School paid him the ultimate compliment by
13naming the football stadium Chic Anderson Stadium; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson was the recipient of numerous
15awards during his career, including the Illinois Athletic
16Director's Association Outstanding Athletic Director of the
17Year award in 1979, the National High School Coaches
18Association Athletic Director of the Year award in 1982, the
19Palatine Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Community Service
20Award in 1982, and the Northwest Community Hospital Sportsman
21of the Year Award in 1991; he was also inducted into the
22Illinois Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame in 1998

1and Palatine High School Hall of Fame in 1999; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson was a member of St. Thomas
3Catholic Church; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson was preceded in death by his
5parents, Elizabeth and Julius Anderson, and his brother,
6Berendt; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerald Anderson is survived by his wife of 58
8years, Mary Lou Anderson; his children, Mark Anderson, Tammy
9Fitzgerald, Cindy (Terry) Ellis, Gordy (Suzanne) Anderson, Joe
10(Pam) Anderson, John (Meghan) Anderson, and Stan (Mary)
11Anderson; his 13 grandchildren; his siblings, Phyllis,
12Eleanor, Marian (Louie), and Jack (Dorothy); his
13sister-in-law, Lorraine Anderson; and his brother-in-law, Dean
14(Jean) Hill; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Gerald J. "Chic"
18Anderson; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Gerald Anderson as an expression of
21our sympathy.
