SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gentry C. Thetford of Metamora, formerly
4of Washington, who passed away on February 8, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford was born on June 26, 1929, in
6Bradford, Tennessee; his parents were the late Simon Vernie
7Thetford and Vera Mai Thetford; he married Betty Joyce "BJ"
8Harder on March 18, 1951; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford graduated from Woodruff High
10School in 1947; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford began his professional career at
12Couch & Heyle, where he worked for 39 years, serving the
13majority of that time as the company's purchasing agent until
14the company's closure in 1986; he ended his career at MRS
15Industrial, where he retired in 1995; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford served his country for 8 years in
17the Naval Reserves during the Korean War; he was a member of
18the East Peoria Hilton Masonic Lodge; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford was the classic "Good Neighbor"
20and was bestowed that honor by the Washington Courier; and

1    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford was an avid outdoorsman and animal
2lover who loved his fishing trips to Canada and his squirrel,
3rabbit, pheasant, waterfowl, deer, and turkey hunting
4excursions with his family and friends; he was a devoted member
5of Wilmor Sportsman's Club, which at one time was affiliated
6with the Central Illinois Beagle Club, where he enjoyed
7breeding champion beagles who won many awards at field trials
8throughout the central Illinois region; he enjoyed bowling, for
9which he received many individual and team awards; he was a
10frequent visitor to the "boys' swamp", where he enjoyed
11searching for morel mushrooms; he also loved the St. Louis
12Cardinals; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gentry Thetford is survived by his wife, Betty
14"BJ"; his son, Donn Thetford; his daughters, Sheri (Robert)
15Perkins and Gale Thetford; his grandsons, Nathan Tonnies, Derek
16Thetford, Robert (Taylor) Perkins, Stuart Schmadeke, and Aaron
17Perkins; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of Gentry C. Thetford; and
21be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
