SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Steven Wade Evans of Mt. Pulaski, who
4passed away on August 29, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Steven Evans was born in Bloomington to Roy A. and
6Patricia (Wade) Evans on June 7, 1946; he served four years in
7the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Brownson
8and two years in the Navy Reserve in Bloomington; he earned
9multiple Bronze Stars and medals for his bravery and service;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steven Evans worked for Bridgestone
12Firestone/America OTR for 33 years, as both a supervisor and
13tire builder; he was seen as a leader and known for his strong
14work ethic; he was a role model and friend to countless younger
15employees, mentoring them in many ways; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Steven Evans retired in 2003 and extended his love
17of being a devoted father into being a dedicated grandfather;
18he became a caretaker to his grandchildren who had flown across
19the world from Kazakhstan at the ages of three and one to join
20his family; he always took extreme pride in being their,
21"G-Pa"; and

1    WHEREAS, Steven Evans had a lifelong love of working on
2cars and trucks, which was spawned after he built a Harley
3Davidson Chopper with his Navy friends; he spent many hours
4with his father rebuilding a 1940 Ford pickup truck that he
5cherished for years; his family traveled to many car shows
6where he would often receive a first place trophy for best
7truck and other times would win best of show; his love of Ford
8trucks continued and ended with his beloved Ford Raptor; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Steven Evans was preceded in death by his parents
10and his brother, Michael "Mick" Evans; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Steven Evans is survived by his wife, Martha; his
12daughters, Stacey Evans and Michelle Kretschman; his
13grandchildren Mateo and Natalia Kretschman; his sister, Linda
14(Pete) Rojahn; his extended family, Rajean (Mark) Hoffman,
15Robert Babbs Jr., Darrin L. (Tabitha) Babbs II, Eric Hoffman,
16Alyssa Hoffman, RaLynn Babba, Korynn Hoffman, Claidyn Bottoms,
17JozaLynn Babbs, Faye Babbs, Donald (Clindy) Babbs, James A
18Babbs, Jon (Melissa) Leistner, and Barbara Babbs (Laura); and
19over 200 nieces and nephews and other family members from all
20over the country; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Steven Wade Evans and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Steven Evans as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
