HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
4lives in the line of duty; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Joshua Melton was born on October
68, 1982 in Breese; his parents were Michael Melton and Debbie
7Brown; he married Larissa Melton on July 22, 2006 at St.
8Boniface Church in Germantown; and
 
9    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served his country with pride
10and distinction as a member of the Illinois Army National
11Guard, joining a year before his graduation from Central
12Community High School in Breese; he was on his second
13deployment after serving in Iraq from December of 2004 to March
14of 2006; and
 
15    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton enjoyed spending time with his
16family and friends, especially his daughter, Aubrey; he enjoyed
17remote controlled cars and making everyone laugh; he was also
18an avid hunter and fisherman; and
 
19    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was a member of Carlyle Veterans
20of Foreign Wars Post 3523; and

1    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was preceded in death by his
2grandparents, Clarice and Bill Reddick; his grandfather, Jenks
3Edward Warren; his grandmother, Nadine Melton; his uncles,
4Dennis Melton and Tim Hitpas; and his aunt, Doris Legate; and
 
5    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton is survived by his wife, Larissa
6Melton, who is now married to Jon Kampwerth and has a daughter,
7Aniston; his daughter, Aubrey Melton; his mother, Debbie
8(Warren) Brown; his brother, Dustin (Lauren) Melton and their
9children, Hunter and Aliya; his father-in-law, Steve Verdeyen;
10his mother-in-law, Carolyn (Rick) Pennington; his
11sister-in-law, Andrea (Jacob) Richter; his grandfather, Elmer
12Melton, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and
 
13    WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served as a model of patriotism,
14courage, and integrity for the people of the State of Illinois;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
18SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
19United States Route 50 between the Cities of Carlyle and Breese
20as the SSG Joshua Melton Memorial Highway; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation is
22requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State

1and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving
2notice of the name; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
4presented to the family of SSG Joshua Melton and the Secretary
5of the Department of Transportation.
