HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Christ Lutheran School boys basketball team, the Comets, on winning the 2016 National Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Comets swept through five opponents the weekend of March 18-20, 2016 to win the national championship of the Lutheran Basketball Association of America; and

WHEREAS, The Comets clinched their fourth national title by defeating Rockford Lutheran, 52-28, in the championship game at Valparaiso, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, To reach the final, the Comets defeated Macomb (Michigan), St. Peter's; Fort Wayne (Indiana), St. Paul; Torrance (California), First Lutheran; and Fort Wayne, Holy Cross; and

WHEREAS, The team's closest encounter was a 46-44 overtime win over Torrance, First Lutheran in the quarterfinals; their average margin of victory was 19 points; and

WHEREAS, The Comets finished the 2015-16 season with 36 wins and 2 losses; and

WHEREAS, The Comets are Adam Miller, Josh Ivery, Kaevion Mack, Kahlel Danage, Alisander Hangen, Brody Vollrath, Chancellor Booth, Izaac Butler, Seaghan Watson, Joe Lamberti, Marshawn Tolliver, and Kameron Scoggins; coaches, Terry Mooney Jr., John Vollrath, Kourtney Mack, and Terry Mooney Sr.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Christ Lutheran School boys basketball team, the Comets, on winning the 2016 National Championship and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Comets as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
