HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Carol Shehorn on the occasion of her retirement on December 31, 2016, after 27 years of dedicated service as a leadership secretary for the Democratic Caucus of the Illinois House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Since September 21, 1987, Carol Shehorn has served in important roles behind the scenes to keep all legislators, staff, and other interested parties well-informed about pending legislation; her job included creating, with never an error, and distributing the House Rules Committee reports, which are often pages and pages long; and

WHEREAS, Carol Shehorn was the model of efficiency, effectiveness, patience, and caring; she worked with House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie for many years, as well as other leaders, including Jim McPike, Gary Hannig, Jack McGuire, and Sara Feigenholtz; and

WHEREAS, Due to her ability to maintain her pleasant disposition and offer a smile to everyone, even on the most hectic of session days, Carol Shehorn earned the Golden Horseshoe Award for Best House Administrative Assistant in 2013 and 2015; and

WHEREAS, Carol Shehorn never saw her job as an opportunity to burnish her own halo but rather to make everyone else look good; and

WHEREAS, Carol Shehorn will remain active in her retirement with her husband, Cliff, their children, and their many grandchildren; she plans to indulge her passion for overseas travel, particularly to visit with her family in Italy; she will expand her volunteer hours and interests with her church and St. John's Hospital; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the irreplaceable Carol Shehorn on her retirement, thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the Illinois General Assembly and the people of the State of Illinois, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Carol Shehorn as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
