1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, School districts that do not follow laws under the
3 School Code are subject to non-recognition action by the
4 Illinois State Board of Education; and

5     WHEREAS, The Illinois State Board of Education may withhold
6 General State Aid funds from any district that is not
7 recognized and is not abiding by the laws of the School Code;
8 and

9     WHEREAS, The School Code requires districts to have trained
10 personnel for the use of automated external defibrillators; and

11     WHEREAS, The School Code requires districts to include a
12 unit of instruction studying the events of black history,
13 including the history of the African slave trade, slavery in
14 America, and the vestiges of slavery in this country;
15 therefore, be it

16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 urge Chicago Public Schools to adhere to all laws under the
19 School Code, including the training of personnel on the use of
20 automated external defibrillators and the teaching of black
21 history in schools; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That we urge the Illinois State Board of
2 Education to ensure that Chicago Public Schools are in
3 compliance with all applicable laws and to withhold General
4 State Aid funds if it finds the district is not in compliance;
5 and be it further

6     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7 delivered to the Chicago Board of Education and the Illinois
8 State Board of Education.
