HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Zion-Benton Coalition for Healthy Communities was formed in 1995, recognizing that community residents were deeply concerned about healthcare issues that extend beyond the walls of the hospital; the administration of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America at the Midwestern Regional Medical Center invited a group of leaders to assemble to discuss ideas to improve the health and wellness of the community; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition set out to focus on the following concerns: adolescent substance abuse, cultural diversity awareness, parenting and teen sexuality education, immunizations for young children, and access to primary healthcare; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition concentrated efforts on the residents and communities connecting to Zion-Benton Township High School; its efforts were guided by community leaders representing Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor, Zion, and areas of Newport Township; and

WHEREAS, The Coalition set out to fulfill the belief that "leading our communities in a collaborative effort to improve identified health, wellness and social issues" would guide their efforts to create a healthier community; and

WHEREAS, For the past 20 years, the Zion-Benton Coalition for Healthy Communities has been dedicated to building a stronger and healthier community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Zion-Benton Coalition for Healthy Communities and thank them for 20 years of dedicated service to the people of Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor, Zion, and areas of Newport Township; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Zion-Benton Coalition for Healthy Communities as an expression of our esteem and respect.
