HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Patrick Bouvair Owens of Chicago, who passed away on August 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens was born in Chicago on July 15, 1964 to Georgia Mae Dawkins; he attended Jenner Grammar School, where he played the tenor saxophone and community basketball, and graduated from Wells High School; he attended Northeastern Illinois University, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and remained active in the Phi Sigma Alumni Chapter all his life; he married Keteena on August 25, 1990; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens had many career opportunities, including working for Pitney Bowes, Affirmative Insurance, and the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens was a member of Chicago Fellowship of Friends Church when he was young and of Greater New St. James Baptist Church for 20 years later in life, where he served as Chairman of the deacon board and sang in the men's choir; most recently, he was a member of Lifeline Church in Cicero; he and his wife founded Divine Connection Christian Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens enjoyed vacationing with his family, frequenting Walt Disney World and Wisconsin Dells; he also enjoyed maintaining family traditions such as Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas Day brunch, baking his "famous" caramel cakes, and hosting the "Patnic"; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens was preceded in death by his mother; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Owens is survived by his wife, Keteena; his children, Bouvair and Trinity; his 5 brothers, Michael Owens (Sharon), Eugene Owens (Sheltanya), Aaron Owens, Chris Owens (Rose), and John Dawkins; his granddaughter, Mya; his mother-in-law, Hattie "Ms. G" Johnson; his sister-in-law, Kentavia; his niece, Zharia; and a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, family, fiends, and the Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Patrick Bouvair Owens, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Patrick Owens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
