HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Kenneth Hobson for his quick thinking and heroic actions that firefighters believe saved his family from perishing in a house fire; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Hobson is a second grader at Raymond Grade School; during fire prevention week training, provided by his school and members of the Raymond-Harvel Fire Department, Kenneth listened very carefully and retained valuable information; and

WHEREAS, On December 11, 2015, Kenneth Hobson awoke and saw a fire burning in the bedroom he shared with his little brother; he quickly awoke 4 year-old Cadien and exited the room, remembering to shut the door behind him; he then went and woke the rest of the family and they all safely escaped to a neighboring home; and

WHEREAS, The simple act of shutting the door to the room contained the fire to that specific room and prevented the fire from spreading rapidly to the rest of the house; closing the door to the room also bought Kenneth Hobson time to get the rest of the family out of the burning house; and

WHEREAS, If the door had not been shut, firefighters believe that some of Kenneth Hobson's family members may have lost their lives in the blaze; and

WHEREAS, The fire department responded to the call at 5:01 A.M.; while other parts of the home were damaged by heat, water, and smoke, the front bedroom and the attic sustained the majority of the fire damage; and

WHEREAS, When Kenneth Hobson is not busy saving lives, he enjoys playing soccer, baseball, fishing, and camping; he is also a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Hobson's quick thinking and heroic actions during an emergency are a huge factor in his entire family surviving what could have been a tragic event; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor and thank Kenneth Hobson for his heroic actions and wish him the best in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kenneth Hobson as a symbol of our great respect and esteem.
