SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nancy Y. Franco-Maldonado, who passed
4away on December 29, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was born on January 13,
61970 to Felicita Montanez and Hector Franco; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was a devoted wife, a
8loving mother, and an active volunteer in her community; she
9served as Alderman Maldonado's principal political advisor,
10shaping many of his policies on education, housing, health,
11community, and economic development; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado had a deep devotion to her
13Puerto Rican heritage and community; she advocated naming the
14Hispanic Housing Senior building after Puerto Rican political
15prisoner, Oscar Lopez Rivera, and the Humboldt Park library
16after Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez; she supported building the
17Borinqueneers Housing initiative for Latino veterans at
18Norwegian American Hospital and the construction of the Paseo
19Boricua Arts Building; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado was a strong advocate for
21encouraging young Latinos to purchase homes in the Humboldt

1Park area, and as a result, nearly a dozen young Latinos are
2now homeowners in the area; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Nancy Franco-Maldonado is survived by her
4husband, Alderman Roberto Maldonado; her children, Rene,
5Roberto II, and Raquel; and her parents; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Nancy Y. Franco-Maldonado, and extend our sincere condolences
9to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
10it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Nancy Franco-Maldonado as an
13expression of our deepest sympathy.
