| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Jan Marino, who passed away on December | 4 | | 31, 2015 at the age of 66; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jan Marino was born in Spalding, Nebraska; she | 6 | | received her journalism and marketing degree from Creighton | 7 | | University in Omaha in 1971; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Jan Marino worked in marketing for a year for a | 9 | | Nebraska company that sold kitchen cabinets, and later worked | 10 | | in Minneapolis, Minnesota as the marketing manager of a health | 11 | | food company; she later lived in California before taking a job | 12 | | in sales at voice mail system producer Tigon; for several | 13 | | years, she lived in Cincinnati, where she worked in sales for | 14 | | the radar detector manufacturer Cincinnati Microwave; in 1996, | 15 | | she and her husband moved to Lisle, where she worked at Near | 16 | | North Insurance for a year before joining Bank of America's | 17 | | telecommunications group, where she served as a go-between for | 18 | | engineers and bank employees; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, After subsequent jobs at outplacement firms | 20 | | Challenger, Gray, & Christmas and Right Management, Jan Marino | 21 | | formed her own firm, High Gain Companies, in 2008; the firm | 22 | | aims at providing companies with sales training, management |

| 1 | | coaching, succession planning, and social media program | 2 | | creation and maintenance, among other services; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Jan Marino was a co-host of a weekly radio show at | 4 | | blogtalkradio.com with Brian Basilico; in 2011, she published | 5 | | "Take Back Your Career" a book that used her own experiences | 6 | | with career transitions to offer advice for experienced | 7 | | professionals shifting careers; in 2012, she began authoring a | 8 | | blog titled "Take Back Your Career" at ChicagoNow.com; the | 9 | | following year, she started serving as the strategic alliance | 10 | | manager of LinkedIn's Chicago group and began blogging at | 11 | | LinkedIn as well; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Jan Marino was preceded in death by her first | 13 | | husband, Mike Milwood; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Jan Marino is survived by her husband, John | 15 | | Marino; her brothers, Jim Echternacht and Chuck Echternacht; | 16 | | and her sister, Mary Savory; therefore, be it
