SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Billy J. Burks of North Chicago, who passed away on March 5, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Billy Burks was born in Mexia, Texas to Elijah Burks Jr. and Lurlean Adams on September 3, 1944; and

WHEREAS, Billy Burks retired from OMC and Gurnee School District 56; and

WHEREAS, Billy Burks enjoyed building computers and spending time with his grandchildren; he was active at Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church of North Chicago with the Usher Ministry for many years; and

WHEREAS, Billy Burks was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Mack Edward Burks and Elijah Burks III; and

WHEREAS, Billy Burks is survived by his wife of 49 years, Harrie (Burks); his son, Rodottes (Bertha) Burks; his daughter, Quanisha Burks; his two sisters, Nevada (Elmo) Hawkins and Nylene Bigham; his brother, Tennyson Burks; his four grandchildren, Shaniqua, Zaira, Nathan, and Demetrius; his four sisters-in-law, Ollie Pearl Payne, Ida Nabors, Ethel Nabors, and Margaret Nell Burks; his brother-in-law, Pastor John E. (Katherine) Nabors; his lifelong friends, Lawrence Domino, Pastor A.L. Douglas Sr., Pete Curry, Norman Curry, Herbert, Ronnie Barnett, Andrew Alston, and Phillip Moore; his special daughter, Rose Mary West; his special cousin, Francine; and a host of other family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Billy J. Burks, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Billy Burks as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
