SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John E. "Jack" Schultz of Galena, who passed away on July 22, 2016; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz was born on May 23, 1929 in Boone, Iowa; his parents were John Carl and Iva Schultz; he married Wendy Palka on November 20, 1985 in Waukegan; he and his wife had lived in Waukegan, Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, and Siesta Key, Florida before moving to Galena; and

WHEREAS, In his youth, John Schultz enjoyed summers at Lowell Park in Dixon, where he was a lifeguard for many years; he graduated from Dixon High School and Beloit College, where he was a member of the TKE Fraternity; he furthered his education at the University of Illinois and the University of Louisville Law School; he was a great athlete and a member of his high school and college football and track teams; he was also very proud to have participated in the Purdue University and Drake Relays; after law school, he served in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz was a successful attorney and served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Waukegan for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz was a member of the Waukegan City Club, the Waukegan Yacht Club, and the Medinah Shriners; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz was an avid boater and spent many summers traveling Lake Michigan with his daughters as his crew; he also enjoyed his dogs, his cigars, Door County, Wisconsin, shopping, collecting, and giving nicknames and playing "littleman" with his grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Jane; his grandson, Brady Booth; and his mother-in-law, Ann Preston; and

WHEREAS, John Schultz is survived by his wife, Wendy; his daughters, Laurie (Scott) Booth, Carla Schultz, and Jocko (Chuck) Blair; his stepsons, Erik (Marika) Wasmund, Matt (Carrie) Wasmund, and Peter (Frayah) Wasmund; and 12 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of John E. "Jack" Schultz; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Schultz as an expression of our sympathy.
